You will leave Kigali on day 2 and head to Nyungwe forest but first stopping at nyanza royal palace for an informative visit. Nyanza was Rwanda’s capital before Kigali and this was between 1958-1962. This palace was built for King Mutara III Rudahigwa who passed on sadly before he could reside in it so it was found deserving to turn it into a museum.

From here you will also drive to Butare to visit the country’s national museum where you will see different historical of Rwanda before driving to Nyungwe forest. The drive is a very scenic one as you drive past several neat farmlands and lots of green vegetation. You will go for a chimp trek in the morning in Cyamudongo forest that is nearby. It is a small forest that has been connected to Nyungwe forest historically and it has a great collection of bird species that are typical of the Albertine Riftvalley system. Because of its small size it is better to see chimps here than in Nyungwe forest; it has resident habituated chimps therefore be sure to catch them anytime here.
In the afternoon you will then enjoy a canopy walk in Nyungwe forest which is a suspended walkway that hangs over the treetops and it has stunning views of the forest life. Get your adrenaline moving as you move high above land. After lunch you can also return for a nature walk where you will enjoy birding, seing butterflies and waterfalls too.
