This a 4 day tour to the Volcanoes National park to trek mountain gorillas the famous endangered giant apes, golden apes, the work of the reknown researcher Dian Fossey who called this home and not forgetting the magnificent beaches and towns of Lake Kivu. There is also an opportunity to get first hand information about what happened in the 1994 massacre when you visit the genocide sites on the last day.
Day 1: Arrival, city tour and transfer to Volcanoes Park
You will be picked from Kigali by our company tour staff and you will be taken around the amazing clean and busy city. You will visit local markets were you can get fresh items like fruits, art and craft shops and genocide memorial sites. From there you will be driven the park and the journey is a very interesting one as you will get to pass by exciting farmlands, highlands and very jolly Rwandan children who wave past every passing vehicle.
Day 2: Gorilla Trekking and Community Walk
You will need to have a morning breakfast before heading to the park’s headquarters so as to have as enough energy as you can possibly have. Gorilla trekking is very interesting if you have enough energy saved up. Do not to pack lunch as well to take along with you in case you don’t make it in time for lunch at the lodge. At the headquarters you will be briefed and then assigned to a tour guide and thereby you will head out into the forest for an unforgettable experience in search of mountain gorillas which can last from 2 -6 hours depending on where they are located. Thereafter you will have time to spend time with them for a maximum of an hour. At the end of the trek, you will have a community walk where you will get to mingle with the Banyarwanda people and get a feel of the interesting and unique Rwandan culture. You can even dance to the tunes of their percussion instruments.
Day 3: Golden Monkey Trekking/ Dian Fossey Hike and Transfer to Lake Kivu
After your early morning breakfast , you will head to the park headquarters to trek yet another set of unique creatures, the golden monkeys along other primates you will come across in the forest. You will as well hike if you like at the Karisoke Research centre or better yet visit the tomb of Dian Fossey and see the tireless work of this lady who dedicated her life to research about the famous mountain gorillas. Other primates you will find include vervet monkeys, black and white Colobus monkeys, L’hoests monkeys to mention but a few.
Day 4: Transfer to Kigali and Departure
Day 4 will mark the end of our incredible experience but first you will enjoy a boat ride on Lake Kivu and later our staff will take you back to Kigali just in time t catch your plane.
